Control Message NL-Alert is received by 7.1 million people
The NL-Alert message which was broadcast on December 7, was received by about 7.1 million people from twelve years and older. This gave 49 percent of Dutch people who should receive the message, the actual message inside.
This is pretty consistent with the established by Tweakers poll on the day of the broadcast: 49.6 percent of the tweakers who voted claims to have gotten the message inside. KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile sent the control message through their 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. Tele2 could not be broadcast over 4g. This can be expected to be from the beginning of 2016.
Most smartphones are preset so that they can receive an NL-Alert. NL-Alert can be used by the government in an emergency to warn people in the immediate vicinity of a disaster via a text message. The previous control message which was broadcast on June 1, 2015, was by about 35 per cent of those over 12 years of age and older receive.
