Apple CEO Tim Cook has officially confirmed for the first time that the company is now entering the self-driving car market, but technically it is not thinking about manufacturing a brand-name car, after years of shutting down the company.

“We focus on self-driving systems,” Cook said in an interview with Bloomberg Television on June 5, “It’s a basic technology that we think is very important,” and likened it to “the mother of all intelligence projects Artificial “, saying it” may be one of the most difficult artificial intelligence projects that work on it. ”

The autoservice market has seen a large number of technology companies pushing in that direction. Google’s parent company, Waimo, signed an agreement with Fiat Chrysler Motors and Lift services to develop the technology. Automakers, such as BMW and General Motors, have opened a large number of offices in the Silicon Valley, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on self-driving cars.

Apple first sought to build its own car before reassessing those ambitions last year to give priority to the technology behind self-leadership, Bloomberg reported. The company has hired more than 1,000 engineers to work on the Titan Project, a name known by the car team internally, after it began in 2014.

In April, Apple obtained a permit from the California Department of Motor Vehicles to test three self-driving cars, several weeks later. One person familiar with the Titan project said that six vehicles had been secretly testing the self-driving technique on and around the San Francisco Bay Area for at least one year.

“There is a big disturbance looming,” Cook told Bloomberg, citing self-driving technology, electric vehicles and taxis on demand. “You have three sectors of change that generally occur in the same timeframe,” he said.

When asked whether Apple plans to make a brand-name car, Cook said: “We’ll see that it leads us.” “The fact is that we do not say from the point of view of the products what we will do.”
