Cortana will scan emails to assist in management agenda

Microsoft has added in its Insider build of Windows 10 includes two new options to help keep track of written agreements that are not yet in a diary. The function will initially be available only in the English US and UK versions of the OS.

Cortana users will help to keep their agreements, such as a promise made by e-mail along the lines of: “I can pick up movie tickets Tuesday or even” or that a particular deadline has been set. To do this, Cortana will scan emails from users in a similar way as Cortana already doing to track flights or follow postal packets.

The other option is that Cortana keeps on the agenda of certain agreements too early or too late and whether an arrangement is not suitable in connection with other arrangements. These features are in similar shape familiar to people who use Google services such as Gmail.

Cortana uses machine learning to understand the language used in emails and distill from this that somewhere there is an obligation. The tool was created in collaboration with Microsoft Research. The function is initially only available on Windows 10 installations that use US or UK locale. Soon, an update must also occur to the Cortana clients from Android and iOS.

From an interview on The Verge shows that scanning e-mails locally occurs and no data is sent in principle to Microsoft’s servers unless the user wants to get a reminder on other devices. It is also possible to turn off the function in its entirety.
