Critical bug affects Git clients for Windows and Mac




The official Git clients and related software for Mac and Windows contain a critical bug which makes it possible to take a computer. GitHub warns users active for the leak and has released a fix.

Github In a blog post writes the organization behind the open source platform that affects the bug particularly developers with Windows and Mac. It is a problem that affects only clients that can access repositories. This makes and GitHub Enterprise not directly vulnerable to the leak.

Because the bug an attacker can overwrite the configuration file from Git if he wants to clone a file or control. As a result, there to execute arbitrary commands, allows a computer to be taken over in extreme cases. Windows and Mac clients are vulnerable to this, but that does not in principle for Linux.

GitHub encourages all developers strongly recommend to work with their clients to the latest version, which is available immediately. They have reportedly been careful cloning and accessing repositories that are housed in unsafe or unreliable hosts. Repo on GitHub are not vulnerable because the organization in their own words checks for the vulnerability.
