Cyclists brings cycling map with smartphone app




The Dutch Cyclists’ Union has released an app to bring the Dutch bicycle network map and gain insight into where paths and roads should be improved. The idea is that cyclists install the app so that the app can upload data about rides.

Screenshot Bike Telweek app According to the Cyclists have so far more than 23,000 people registered for the examination. These cyclists are spread across the country. With the data federation wants to see where include delays.

The association has developed an app for both Android and iOS that measures the route, time and speed of the user’s bicycle. Users automatically get a notification to turn on their GPS position as they have installed app. The data is automatically sent to the database of the Cyclists.

From a posting on the site of the Bike Telweek however, show that the data at the time of transmission have not yet been rendered anonymous, but that it is done at the end of the study. The Android version of the app requires access to include ‘device ID and call information’ and ‘identity’.
