Damage caused by internet banking fraud fell by million




The damage in 2015 in total suffered by fraud in Internet banking, with one million euros fell to 3.7 million euros, calculated the Dutch Banking Association. The decrease would have to deal with an increase in the detection and better cooperation.

Phishing takes most of the damage on fraud in Internet banking, with an amount of EUR 3 million in 2015. That was a year before 3.9 million. The other losses include from fraud via malware, but there are no figures available. In 2014 it went to malware still an amount of 500,000 euros. Banks, police and justice together combat Internet fraud, the Electronic Crime Task Force initiative, which they include share a lot of data.

All Dutch banks have set up common rules for safe Internet banking including requirements for running current security updates to devices such as computers, tablets and smartphones, to the extent used for banking. This was in 2015 at 1.1 percent of the incidents the case of the 3.7 million euro 40.000 euro was not paid by banks because the damage was due to “gross negligence” of the customer.
