The Latitude 7000 12 2-in-1 is thinnest and Dell’s lightest tablet of this caliber up to now. He is thinner and lighter than the Surface Pro 4, partly because the standard is not built into the back. Latitude The housing is made of a magnesium alloy.

The Dell is also smaller in size, although there is more screen surface. This is because Dell is the screen of thin edges, especially on the sides. The manufacturer is one of the few that use the screens, including the XPS 13 and 15, and at the same time with the Latitude 12 7000 2-in-1 announced Latitude 13 7000, have such thin edges. In the past it was sometimes said that tablets can better have thick edges, because you then can easily grab without having to touch the screen, but in practice this proved in our short test hardly play a role.

The resolution of the 12.5 “screen is 1920×1080 pixels, but Dell also models with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels uhd. The latter model shows a very sharp image, with 352ppi, but the question is what the additional cost of the 4k screen will be and what the effect on the battery life, the aspect ratio is 16: 9., where the Surface Pro 4 the image in a ratio of 3: 2 shows.

The tablet can be coupled via a magnetic connection to a keyboard cover. The cover that Dell tablet flour evert is a standout. The tablet can be inserted into the hinge and the back side is then completely covered by the portion of the cover which also contains a standard. This standard is put in different positions.

The cover is on the outside with a layer of dust that gives a good grip and nice in the hand. The keyboard provides keys with little travel, as we see more often in thin two-in-one machines. The trackpad is decent size, but feels cheap. It is striking that on the side a holder for the Dell Active Pen is present, but this stylus is not supplied as standard.

Dell optionally offers a second keyboard cover, which features a better keyboard and a better trackpad. The Latitude 12 Premier Keyboard is slightly thicker, but the keys feel better and offer more travel. The keyboard comes close to that of a full-fledged laptop, but it floats and is so light and thin that it still feels a bit cheap. The main disadvantage of this accessory is that the tablet can be used on only one position; the screen is therefore not further convert the rear. Both keyboards incidentally are backlit.

Dell is so thin, the tablet able to hold by adding a minimum of ports. Business machines where not so long ago had a multitude of interfaces and ports, we see at CES many laptops with few USB ports c. This Latitude example, has only two USB ports c, which does support third thunderbolt. The bandwidth of 40Gbit / s per port is large enough to achieve full expansion via adapters and Dell also provides a chargeable USB c adapter with HDMI, VGA, Ethernet and USB 3.0. By default, the company provides a USB-c-to-USB 3.0 adapter with. One of the ports is for the power supply. It is unfortunate that Dell nonstandard flour evert the extended adapter.

In addition to the USB ports c there are still a standard SD card slot and a SIM card holder, behind a flap, and also there are the audio ports and a connection for a lock. The tablet has an 8-megapixel camera and a 5 megapixel version that focuses on the user.

Dell puts a new business model of the M-line with Core vPro features, such as hardware encryption, the Latitude 2-in-1. SOCS which make it possible to cool the tablet passive. Or Skylake-socs with HD Graphics 515 GPU provide sufficient computing power, will show off benchmarks. The tablet also features Intel 8260 WiFi ac network with a 2×2 antenna and support for Bluetooth 4.1. 4G support for the manufacturer builds optional Snapdragon X7-LTE modem.
Preliminary conclusion

Dell Latitude 12 7000 2-in-1 combines a compact shape and thinness with high-end hardware and a very high resolution. It is nice that Dell offers two different keyboard covers, but even better keyboard of the two does not reach even to that of a full-fledged laptop. For those who type a lot, is the Latitude 13 7000 at first sight a better candidate. On the other hand displays the Surface Pro 4 that there is indeed a demand for business tablets with ‘aanplaktoetsenborden’ and Dells alternative has several advantages over Microsoft’s machine, such as high-speed USB ports c. There is a hefty price though again opposite; the starting price of the Latitude 12 7000-series 2-in-1 7275 is 1450 euros.
