Dell has announced that it will also offer the Developer Edition of its XPS 13 laptop with Ubuntu 18.04 as an alternative to a configuration with Windows. Dell has been releasing laptops since 2012, and the choice for Linux is possible.

According to the US Dell site , there are three versions of the total of thirteen XPS-13 variants that are equipped with the recent Ubuntu version. Barton George, who works at Dell with the Linux laptops within the so-called Project Sputnik, says that the option with Ubuntu 18.04 will soon be available in Europe and Canada. Until now there were Dell laptops with versions 12.04, 14.04 and 16.04 from Ubuntu. Version 18.04 came out in April.

According to George, the current generation of the XPS 13 is the seventh. The options available on the American site start with a system based on an Intel Core i5-8250U processor, in combination with 4GB lpddr3 ram and 128GB ssd storage. The most expensive variant has a Core i7-8550U CPU with 16GB lpddr3 memory and 256GB PCIE-e-SSD storage. Without adjustments, the price of this amounts to about 1800 dollars. The maximum SSD storage is 2TB.

Version 18.04 of Ubuntu is a lts release, which receives support over a period of five years. In this version, the GNOME desktop is again present and users can, for example, opt for a minimal installation of the operating system.
