Details of AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990X with 32 cores at 4GHz are online

There are screenshots online that give details about the Threadripper 2990X. The processor has 32 cores, can work on 64 threads and seems to be able to reach speeds of 4GHz or higher on all cores.

Presumably, the Ryzen Threadripper 2990X is the top model of the new generation of Threadripper processors, of which AMD made a pre-announcement earlier this month. At that presentation AMD announced that there are Threadripper processors with 24 and 32 cores , without giving any further details.

The details about the Threadripper 2990X processors are available online at the Chinese website Hkepc. It is a screenshot of CPU-Z and a photo of a list of results in Cinebench. The processor has a tdp of 250 watts, and is equipped with L1, L2 and L3 caches of 3, 16 and 64MB.

The Cinebench results show that the processor scores twice as high as the 1950X , the top model of the first generation of Threadripper processors. The higher score is due to the doubling of the number of cores, but also the clock speed is slightly higher.

AMD has indicated that the second-generation Threadripper processors will be released in the third quarter of this year. They fit in the same TR4 socket as the current versions, but manufacturers come up with new motherboards with adapted power supply, presumably mainly to facilitate the overclocking of the models with 24 and 32 cores. A complete presentation of the new Threadripper processors will probably follow in August.
