That Jensen returns to Mankind Divided perhaps because the new Deus Ex takes place right after the events of Human Revolution. Then it was in 2027, now it is 2029. That seems short, but a lot has happened in the intervening period. Indeed, the Human Revolution from the previous game is not entirely successful. In the game from 2011, the human race is something beautiful portrayed: life can be sweetened with augmentations; Mechanical improvements to the human body. Jensen is one example. It is one of the first which has been improved by means of various augmentations and the technique appears for large parts of the human race within reach. As the title suggests, there appears to be a true human revolution.
Yet the idea does not start, it turns into Mankind Divided. There has been growing rapidly improved resistance to the human being. And there is discord; disagreement between those who do and those who are not equipped with augmentations. As people with improvements still by far in the minority, they are confronted with growing resistance. They looked at the neck – and soon more than that. They are oppressed and even handled separately. So you see on the platform in Prague separate entrances for men, women and a sign with AUG, a separate door for people with augmentation. It is reminiscent of the racial segregation in the US and apartheid in South Africa, in this case people with augmentations as second class citizens. Indeed, the custom man is soon trapped in separate quarters in ghettos for the lower species.
