Developer of Rise of the Triad new version takes about 3D Realms
Interceptor Entertainment, the developer behind the Rise of the Triad reboot from 2013, publisher and developer 3D Realms has taken over. 3D Realms, also known as Apogee Software, owns the rights to the old Duke Nukem games and Shadow Warrior.
Frederik Schreiber, director of the Danish Interceptor Entertainment, made the news known via Twitter. The two studios are embroiled in a lawsuit with Gearbox Software about Duke Nukem RPG: Mass Destruction. According Gearbox is a new title in the franchise Duke, and Gearbox is the one who holds the rights to. Gearbox is therefore no longer facing two parties but one. Monday Schreiber holds a press conference about the acquisition. Opposite the Danish newspaper Børsen reports Mike Nielsen, the new director of 3D Realms, that he “wants to keep the legend of 3D Realms and strengthen.”
Apogee logo There is a difference between 3D Realms and Apogee Apogee annex LLC, which creates some confusion with respect to the acquisition. In 2008, the rights to many titles from Apogee, but not of include Duke Nukem, bought by a fellow founder of 3D Realms, Terry Nagy. Nagy founded Apogee Software, LLC and brings under this name mostly old titles from 3D Realms for modern digital distribution platforms like Steam. In addition, Apogee LLC publisher and owner of the Rise of the Triad reboot from 2013. Apogee Software, LLC is not taken over by Interceptor Entertainment and still has all his rights in the hands.

A year later, in 2009, asked Apogee Ltd.. bankruptcy. Gearbox Software bought the rights to the Duke franchise Apogee Ltd.. and the company could continue to exist. The only rights Apogee Ltd.. loved himself, were among others who Shadow Warrior and Duke Nukem games for Duke Nukem Forever. Only those rights are now in the hands of Interceptor Entertainment.
