Developer stops Kodi for second-generation Apple TV

The developer who XBMC successor Kodi has written for the second-generation Apple TV, will soon release no more updates for the media player. He says it simply takes too much work to maintain the software.

According to developer Memphiz takes a lot of work to maintain the software with obsolete hardware from 2011. As a result, the quality since the release Frodo would have gone backwards. For example, the media player software would be unstable and frequently crash.

Maintaining XBMC / Kodi for the second generation Apple TV asked more and more attention, writes the developer. With the release of iOS 6, according to him took a lot of work, since much of the code had to be rewritten by software changes that Apple carried through. “Most of the work can be accomplished only by trial and error and carefully reading log files. That’s how software development works in 2015.”

The upcoming release of Kodi, version 14.1, the latest release will be suitable for the Apple TV 2. Then there will be offered only through the support forum of open source software. Then no updates appear more. The source code of the program will remain 15.0 certainly available to Kodi says the developer. What happens next with the code is not known.
