DICE is working on Battlefield 4 parts iOS




DICE got the PC version of Battlefield 4 running on iOS. It is provisionally for a demonstration. The developers of the Frostbite engine emphasize that they want to watch the demo which Apple game development platform Metal is capable.

Developing games is no different than, for example, consoles, mobile devices, says DICE. Previously it was only a challenge to develop games for example the iPhone or iPad, because the hardware could not be used optimally. As a result, there were fewer objects, or the quality is not very good.

“This changed when Apple’s new Metal-api introduced . That helped us to make the best use of the hardware, ” let DICE know on his blog. The developer has parts of Battlefield 4 ported to iOS and says that not disappointing results so far. DICE posted a few screenshots as evidence online.

DICE shows not much further apart, but says it will report more in the future on the iOS development. “Much remains to be done, but we are very pleased with the results so far. It’s a great feeling to port the system to get it running and find that performance is still possible.”
