DJI has announced the Phantom 4. The drone has a 4k camera for recording video, but also several other cameras and sensors that enable the machine to fly autonomously. The Phantom 4 can recognize objects, track and dodge.

DJI places great emphasis on the autonomic functions of the Phantom 4 . Users of the drone with the Active Track function can give the order to follow a topic by drawing a ‘selection in the app on the image. The Phantom 4, three additional cameras present, two front and one mounted at the bottom, which creates a 3D model of the selected topic, which can then be monitored by tracking the drone.

Another possibility is the TapFly function, which allows the user presses in the app at a point in the image, and the Phantom 4 there myself flying around. While following topics or flying to a designated point, the sensors continuously keep the environment in mind and obstacles can be avoided. When using the TapFly feature the Phantom 4 calculates a new path if an obstacle is in the way, says the manufacturer.

In addition to three additional cameras Phantom 4 has two ultrasonic sensors that the environment is monitored. The drone would be so at any time be able to see what is happening from a distance of fifteen meters in the round and up to ten meters below the machine. The additional sensors have their own processor which processes the information and transmits to the ‘flight computer.

The sensors are also used for the return to home function. This was already available on previous drones DJI, but should work much better with the Phantom 4 because the drone when returning to the base station may take into account obstacles can find in the area and so itself the safest way ‘home’ .

DJI claims to have provided the Phantom 4 a better lens, which consists of eight lens elements for clearer images. The lens has an angle of 94 degrees and an aperture of f / 2.8. The camera is a sensor of 1 / 2.3 “size with a maximum photo resolution of 12 megapixels. It can be filmed in uhd resolution of 3840×2160 pixels with 24, 25 or 30fps. In 1080p resolution, it is possible to film 60 and 120fps, for creating slow-motion images. the maximum bit rate is 60Mbit / s.

Although DJI flying with the 4 Phantom seems easier thanks to the autonomic functions wanting to make for a large audience, the manufacturer provides the drone also a sport mode, which can be flown faster. The maximum speed is 72km / h and DJI only recommends this mode for advanced users.

The battery has a slightly higher capacity of 5350mAh and is good for up to 28 minutes flying according to the specifications. The maximum range that can be flown with the Phantom 4 is five kilometers.

The DJI Phantom 4 can be ordered for 1599 euros. According to the manufacturer the drone comes from 15th March. There appears to attend one embodiment and various Phantom 3 models seem, therefore, to remain in the range.
