Donor Service Patreon is working on a way in which people with a Patreon page can offer merchandise through the site to people who support them. This is already happening, but the settlement is done outside of Patreon.

Many holders of Patreon pages already offer merchandise with certain subscriptions, but with the new system the company wants to take things off their hands, writes Patreon . Details of the service are still missing, but there is probably a deal with a maker of merchandise, after which holders of pages can easily produce products there, while those in the backend can easily be added and possibly sent.

The merchandise service has to come online later this year, the company says. There are now more than one hundred thousand Patreon pageholders and a total of three million donors, the company reports. This year Patreon expects to pay a total of half a billion dollars to people seeking financial support through Patreon.

Patreon is a site where ‘creators’, often artists, musicians, illustrators or makers of podcasts or videos, can ask for a monthly financial contribution. People who want to support them often receive advantages, such as access to exclusive content.
