Dropbox makes business chat application opensource




Dropbox has released the source code of Zulip, a chat application that is intended for use by businesses. The corresponding applications for Android, iOS and desktop operating systems are released. Dropbox is hoping that users will then improve the software.

The required source code for Zulip has been online put on a Github repository, allowing interested parties can get started right away. There is code to set up the web server and web applications, but also of the already released applications for Android and iOS is source code available. The necessary code for apps that are suitable for desktop operating systems Windows, Linux and Mac are available. The whole is released under an Apache license, Dropbox so let know in an announcement on his blog. On his website developers Zulip help in setting up your own chat server, something that is especially meant for businesses.

With the open source making Zulip hopes Dropbox users will improve the product. A group of developers would have already announced they will enter the source code to get started. Dropbox probably hopes the move to open source Zulip generates more users.
