DualShock 4 was originally designed to work with VR-headset Morpheus

One of the main designers of Sony admitted in an interview with the site TechRadar, that game controller DualShock 4, which comes with the console PlayStation 4 , was originally created with the expectation that it will be used together with a virtual reality headset Morpheus .

Indeed, so many worried about the fact that the luminous panel lightbar, located on the front surface of the DualShock 4 practically not involved in most of the games. Designer of Sony Jed Eshfort shed light on the mystery, which was shrouded in this item gamepad PS4.

“Our engineers were told that we definitely need a glowing panel in the new gamepad. They explained this by the fact that it will be used in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera to track player position in space using a virtual reality helmet. ”

Despite the fact that the PlayStation 4 came out almost 6 months ago, Sony was working on a virtual reality helmet Morpheus much longer. Of course, the development team was not allowed to disclose this information before the official announcement will Morpheus showcased GDC in March 2014. And only now, when the embargo ended, they were able to share with us the truth.

“When six months ago, the console went on sale, and all began to grumble that this luminous panel will be reflected in their TV screens, we are very worried because they do not have the opportunity to explain to them the importance of this element and its role in the future of the gaming industry.”

The latest firmware version numbered 1.7 PS4 able to change the brightness of the luminous panels in order to keep it blinded you in the dark and not reflected from the painted surfaces in the dark. As you can imagine, using the helmet surrounding Morpheus no glare and bright glow will not disturb you.

In addition to its main function, lightbar has other, less important tasks. For example, when you lose health during the game, it changes its color from green to red, thus showing that you have time to heal. Also, using the lightbar bracket specifies the location of the players on the couch and assigns them the serial numbers in accordance with where each of them is sitting – it’s very useful for fighting games, not to confuse where whose character on the screen.

Date commercial launch Morpheus helmet remains a mystery, but at the upcoming E3, Sony may shed light on this mystery. Let me remind you that E3 2014 will be held from 10 to 12 June.
