Dutch company adds ultrasonic avoidance technique to drone
The Dutch drone Aerialtronics manufacturer has developed a system that allows its Zenith drone can automatically maintain a safe distance from objects. The system makes use of ultrasound to measure the distance to an object.
The “Sense and of Aerialtronics Avoid’ system allows the drone is equipped with aware of everything that is going on in the vicinity. The system consists of four sensors, which are mounted on the arms of the Zenith drones Aerialtronics. By sending out ultrasound and measure how long it takes to return the first echo, the distance can be determined to an object.
According Aerialtronics the technique can be applied in practice for the inspection of, for example, infrastructure and telecommunications masts. It can be set to a “safe zone” where the drone may come closer. The sensors can be purchased by two or four. That ensures a coverage of 180 and 360 degrees respectively. In the second quarter of 2016, the upgrade should be available for the Zenith 1.3-drone systems. A price is not known.
Various other drone makers working on systems in order to avoid objects automatically. In many cases, that by using cameras. Yuneec showed at the CES trade Typhoon H which also uses ultrasonic technology. The Chinese manufacturer used however to avoid major obstacles and will in the future add a module with Intel’s Real Sense camera technology.Viewing:-175
