Dutch police has already closed 307 fake shops this year

Dutch police have claimed 307 fake web shops from the internet this year. In addition, they expect to get around 100 web shops offline. Additional fake shops would be in the air around the holidays.

That said team leader Gijs van der Linden of the National Reporting Center Internet scams of the police in a radio broadcast of Radar. It is therefore hundreds of fake web shops that have appeared this year and have been forced offline by the police. However, it seems that several more actions will follow, as many crooks are still active during the holidays; the police expect to close another 100 fraudulent web shops.

The closed fake shops mainly contain urls with a reference to a well-known web store, such as KPN or Coolblue. Payments often had to be made via bitcoin, or by credit card. Van der Linden calls on the victims to make a declaration, so that they can take action against the fake shops. Per declaration, there would be about 500 to 600 euros per person.

Last month , the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets already warned against malicious web shops, especially for fraudsters who operate via social media. Through a campaign, the ACM wants to warn consumers about web shops that make targeted offers via social media, but do not deliver them or do not deliver them properly. This would have resulted in an estimated loss of 5 million euros last year.
