Essential launches app for smart meters for testing

Essent has released an app for Android and iOS tablets and smartphones that gives users insight into their energy consumption. The app will initially be available to a limited group of three thousand users participating in a pilot project.

The app allows you to see how much their household at one time consumed with a smartphone or tablet and they can reduce the amount of kilowatt hours of electricity, and the number of cubic meters of gas retrieval over a certain period. They can understand the cost and make comparisons of costs between periods.

It is a test that lasts until the end of December. The app only works in combination with a specific smart meter which participants received a pilot in Assen, Groningen, Den Bosch, Waspik, Waalwijk, Asten and Sittard. “We hope to learn what value we can offer in conjunction with smart meters, in preparation for the large-scale roll-out of smart meters by the network in 2015,” said Ilse Steenbergen, spokeswoman for Essent against Tweakers.

According to its customers soon get the opportunity via the website of Essent, within the ‘My Essent’ environment, to understand their consumption and costs. Insight Whether and when the test with the app is going to be extended, they could not say. Whether there are versions for other platforms than iOS and Android release is not yet clear.
