‘EU and US will soon conclude agreement on exchanging personal data’

The European Union and the United States would be close to an agreement about the exchange of data of citizens. Here rules to establish must be taken to ensure that the privacy of citizens is guaranteed.

espionage Sources Reuters propose that talks are now at an advanced stage. If the deal comes there is a framework for the exchange of data from US and European citizens. This exchange can occur for example when a person is suspected of terrorism or other criminal cases.

If the EU and US reach an agreement, then there is a formal application process where US and European organizations can use. For example, police departments submit applications to obtain personal data of European or American citizens. Also, public authorities can do that kind of request. Has been since 2011, negotiated such an agreement.

According to Reuters the talks were long stuck on the EU’s wish that European citizens can file a complaint in the US if they believe their privacy has been compromised. US citizens can already file charges in Europe because of privacy violation, but vice versa was not yet possible. However, it seems that American politicians are willing to make concessions in this area: a law recently there was submitted stating that citizens from countries allied to the US have been given the right to file a complaint. The law still has to be pushed through the US Congress.

The revelations of Snowden there is much distrust between the US and EU. Probably hope the politicians regulations to establish cooperation.
