EU parliament is disappointed about Facebook delegates

for Cambridge session
European Parliament has expressed its disappointment that Facebook does not send the invited people to a hearing on the Cambridge Analytica scandal. That session must take place on Monday.

In fact, the European Parliament had invited three specific Facebook representatives to attend the hearing. This involved the chief privacy officer , the vice president for advertising and the vice president for global public policy . Only the last, named Joel Kaplan, comes to the hearing according to the parliament . The other guests do not come, instead two other people from the public policy team would come to Brussels.

The parliamentary committees that organize the hearing express their disappointment about this and say Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has sent a letter in which this has been worded. The company would still have ignored the wishes of the parliamentarians.

The chairman of the LIBE committee says: “Following a request from the chairmen of the four parliamentary committees involved, which had been adopted and adopted by all the political groups in the European Parliament, we had hoped to hear from other speakers. Now also listen to the members of the public policy teams proposed by Facebook, and it is up to the members to see if the answers from Facebook are sufficient, convincing and credible. ”

The session that takes place on Monday is the second in a series of three and serves to determine the privacy consequences of the scandal. The first session took place on June 4 and the last will take place on July 2. Zuckerberg himself was present at a session on 22 May, but did not go into it extensively. The subject of the hearings is the Cambridge Analytica scandal , in which the company purchased and used data from 87 million Facebook users in the presidential election in the United States.
