European e-sports finals League of Legends will take place in Rotterdam in April

The spring finals of the European e-sports competition of League of Legends return to Rotterdam. In 2016 the finals of the so-called spring split also took place in Ahoy Rotterdam. The finals take place mid-April.

Riot Games, the maker of League of Legends, reports that the finals will take place in Ahoy Rotterdam on 13 and 14 April. Three years ago, the finals of the competition were already played in the Rotterdam event center. Then G2 Esports succeeded in defeating the Origen team. Both teams will participate in the competition again this year.

The competition started on Friday with a match between Fnatic and SK Gaming, which eventually had to be played again due to technical problems after SK Gaming had built up a big lead in thirty minutes. Eventually, SK Gaming won the match. Fnatic has a Belgian player, Bwipo. This year there is also Dutch contribution: Febiven has returned from the United States; he won his first match on Friday with his team Misfits.

Previously, the European e-sports league of League of Legends was known as EU LCS, or the European League Championship Series. From this year on, for the first time there is a franchise design, as was already the case with the American e-sports competition of League of Legends. This also includes a new name: League of Legends European Championship, or the LEC. The format of the competition is largely unchanged: during nine weeks there are game rounds, after which playoffs take place, followed by the Rotterdam finals.

The first part of the competition, called the jump split , consists of nine rounds and ends mid-March. Each of the ten teams then played eighteen games. Then play-offs and finally the finals in Ahoy. That is the final part of the first part of the season. The second part, the summer split , will probably start in June.
