Travel giant Expedia take Airbnb competitor HomeAway over for $ 3.9 billion, converted 3.6 billion. The Texan company remains largely independent from its new parent company function.

HomeAway logo It is the first step of Expedia in the world of short-term hiring. To date, the company and subsidiaries as Trivago focused on airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rental, cruises and vacation packages. Compete directly with Airbnb does HomeAway, however, not at all. Airbnb focuses on very short-term hiring, while HomeAway concentrates on rental for holidays.

Expedia began in 1996 as the first Internet subsidiary of Microsoft, but has become independent. The company itself has an estimated value of nearly 18 billion dollars. The value of HomeAway competitor Airbnb is estimated at 20 billion dollars. The transaction, which amounts to $ 38.31 per share and payable in cash and Expedia shares, is expected in the first quarter of 2016 around. Although both companies have reached an agreement, it is still awaiting approval from the US authorities. Both Airbnb and HomeAway offers its services in the Netherlands and Belgium.
