expert called the real reason for the decline in demand for the iPhone

The fall in iPhone sales in China and the subsequent decline in Apple revenues may be due to an informal boycott of local consumers. Analysts at Merrill Lynch hold a similar position, citing a general decline in demand for imported goods produced by American vendors. The cause of the boycott is the difficulty in US-China relations, which industry experts even call the trade war.

“I believe that what we can now see in the Chinese market is a massive failure of local consumers from American products,” commented Ethan Harris, analyst at Merrill Lynch. “If you look at the import schedules of [American goods], you will notice [the decline in demand] not only for Apple equipment and taxable goods, but also for other imported products.”

IPhone Propaganda
The sharp decline in demand for the iPhone has little to do with the weakening of the Chinese economy and the rise in the dollar, as believed in Cupertino . It is clear that tensions between the two countries lead to the formation in the Chinese public consciousness (not without the help of local media, of course) of a negative image of US companies. Apple, which is for many the quintessence of all American, just fell under the hand, being under the influence of propaganda.

Tim Cook himself completely rejects such statements from analysts. In his opinion, China is completely heterogeneous in its structure and what may be typical of Hong Kong is completely uncharacteristic of Shenzhen and adjacent regions. “Do I think that someone decided not to buy [iphone] because of this? I’m sure that some of them did, but I feel that the slowdown in economic growth, which was caused by trade tensions, had a much stronger effect on sales, ”said Cook.

In general, in my opinion, in this case, Cook and Harris are right. One cannot but agree with the general director of Apple, who believes that those who were truly loyal to Apple and loved its technology simply could not suddenly abandon the iPhone in favor of another brand. On the other hand, the arguments of Harris are also quite strong. The general atmosphere that prevails in the Chinese market, seriously knocked down Apple’s position in the country and definitely had a negative impact on the popularity of its products in the country.
