Fable developer Lionhead Studios is closed
Lionhead Studios, the development studio that was established in the hands of Microsoft and in 1996 by Peter Molyneux, closes its doors Friday. In early March it was announced that the development of Fable Legends was discontinued and was considered to close the studio.
Microsoft has told Eurogamer confirmed that the studio on April 29 close final. The decision was taken after a six-week period of consultation with the staff at Lionshead. According to Eurogamer potential buyers were not interested to take over the studio with his employees. Employees of the studio show Friday on Twitter know to be prepared for their last day.
Lionhead Studios was founded in 1996 and brought the game Black & White in 2001. In 2004, the first Fable game for the Xbox came out. Microsoft was the studio in 2006, owned and let developers create even more Fable games for the Xbox 360.
In 2013, the development of Fable Legends was announced , an online game in the Fable universe. It had a free-to-play game to be for Windows 10 and Xbox One, but Microsoft made known to the development of the game in March stakes . At that time it was not yet certain whether the studio would be closed.
An obvious reason for stopping the development and thereby closing the studio Microsoft has not said, but the company suggests that the popularity was not high enough, with the claim that “Microsoft Studios continues to focus on investing in and developing games and franchises where fans are most excited and they like to play. ”
