Facebook is building new data center in Ireland

Facebook will build a data center in Ireland. It’s the second computer center in Europe and the first to be established in Ireland. Facebook makes to its new location using hardware and software based on its Open Compute Project.

The construction of the data center will start soon in the Irish Clonee, just outside Dublin, and it should be put into operation late in 2017 or early 2018. It is the sixth data center worldwide for social network. Facebook has been a data center in Luleå Sweden, cooled partly due to the cold air.

Irish data center is running according to Facebook ‘100 percent’ on renewable energy, particularly thanks to windmills. The company has set itself the goal by the end of 2018 half of its infrastructure to make renewable energy work.

In addition, the company makes use of new designs of racks, servers and other systems, from the pen of the Open Compute Project come. This project was set up by Facebook to design efficient systems for data centers and as much documentation about it publicly.

Or, the data center is mainly used for the storage of data from Europeans is not known. Several technology companies, such as Oracle, go more and more over here. There’s been months no basis for the transfer of data of Europeans to the US, since the European Court of Justice in early October the Safe Harbour agreement invalid declared in a case between Facebook and Maximillian Schrems.
