Facebook is making significant progress in removing extreme content
social networking platform Facebook said on Wednesday it had removed 99 percent of the content of militant groups belonging to the Islamic State Group in Iraq, al-Sham and al-Qaeda and was ready to hold a meeting with European legislative authorities on tackling extremist content spread over the Internet, Accounted for 83 percent of the terrorist content within one hour of its publication.

The world’s largest social network, with 2.1 billion active users, has been pressured by lawmakers in the United States and Europe to tackle extreme content on its platform more effectively. In June, the platform said it had increased the use of artificial intelligence, Language to quickly select and remove content.

“It is still early but the results are promising, and we hope that artificial intelligence technologies will become the most important tool in the safety and security arsenal on the Internet and within Facebook. Today, 99 percent of the terrorist content of the militant groups has been removed,” said Monica Beckett, global policy director.

The comments come just one week before Facebook and other social media companies such as Google and Twitter are meeting with European Union governments and EU lawmakers to discuss how to remove extremist content and rhetoric from the Internet.

The deployment of artificial intelligence to combat terrorism is not simple. The system designed to find the content of a single terrorist group may not work for the content of another terrorist group because of the language and the difference in advertising methods, for example, the solution that works with images may not work Necessarily with videos or texts.

In September, the European Commission asked social networking companies to find ways to remove terrorist content more quickly, including the use of automatic detection techniques, otherwise they would face potential legislation forcing them to do so.
