Facebook publishes 10 tips to discover “false news

Facebook social network today launched a new phase of its struggle with disinformation and false news by spreading the culture of reading and writing about news. It will appear in the next few days to users in 14 countries around the world, including the United States. It’s called “Tips for detecting false news.”

So far, the network has taken a few steps to identify phantom news. The new step is to educate people on how to avoid it. The new alert is linked to the Facebook Help Center, where users can read “tips to detect phishing news”. In its command and verify addresses associated with false URL links.

“It is not a new phenomenon, and all of us – technology companies, media companies, newsrooms and teachers – have a responsibility to do our part in addressing this phenomenon,” Adam Facebook vice president Adam Masri told the news briefing.

Facebook could have made these tips much easier to pay attention to and more likely to read if they had added them in the same news feed instead of linking them to the Help Center, where this alert is likely to be repeatedly ignored by users, Some users wait for download from an external site.

The social network tries to combat the problem of poor reading and writing culture, identifying dubious news and proactive research patterns in the news reader. According to studies, more than half of adults in the United States receive news from social media rather than directly from reliable sources .

Studies also indicate that the majority of students can not distinguish effectively between reliable news and phantom news, and that 20% of users on social media indicate that their social or political attitudes have changed because of the locations of modern social media.

A quick look at the tips can be summarized as follows

1. Be skeptical of headlines , where false news stories often have attractive titles.

2. Look for URL link addresses , where the title may be fake, and many false news sites mimic original news sources by making small changes in the link title.

3. Check the source and make sure that the story is written by a source you trust in terms of reputation and accuracy.

4. Make sure to format, when you see what is unusual, be sure to write the news and misspellings, as many false news sites have spelling or formatting errors.

5. Check the images accompanying the news, often containing false news stories on manipulated images or videos. The image may sometimes be authentic but used out of context.

6. Check dates within the news, where false news stories may contain timeless time lists or the dates of events mentioned in the news have been changed.

7. To verify the evidence and sources, the sources of the author should be verified to make sure they are accurate, as the lack of evidence or reliance on experts whose name has not been identified may indicate a false news story.

8. Look for other reports on the same story. If you do not find any other news sources pointing to the same story, it may indicate that the story is wrong. If the story is reported from multiple sources you trust, it is likely to be true.

9. Check whether the news is a joke, a joke, or a joke. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between these things, so check if the source is a known source of satirical news and mimic the real news in a comic way.

10. Think about the news presented, because some stories are deliberately wrong so you should share the news that you know is credible and keep away from the dubious news.
