Users without a Facebook account nevertheless be followed on the web is, according to Facebook by a bug. In “some cases” users can be tracked anyway, but Facebook is going to end there.

Facebook Logo Belgian scientists discovered that visitors to websites that offer the Like button from Facebook, are also tracked if they are not logged into Facebook. The social network confirms that, but notes that it is a mistake. “This was not our intention,” says Facebook. “One solution is already underway.”

The bug means that users who are not logged in yet get cookies served, from which an impression of the surfing behavior of a user can be obtained. This happens even if a user has written explicitly in the service Your Online Choices, which itself can unsubscribe online tracking.
