Facebook users can choose who gets control over account after death

Facebook makes it possible from Thursday for US users to designate another user who can take over the account after death. Whoever can not delete photos and posts, but a message on the page of the deceased.

The first version of the new ‘in memoriam’ page lets users act as a digital executor – testamentary post a posting and save an archive of photos and posts of the deceased, reports USA Today. Private messages remain inaccessible to the person to whom a user passes control of the account.

The function is only available from Thursday for US users. By default, Facebook will still freeze the page if it is clear that someone is deceased. Until Thursday it was in all the pages in that way. It is necessary that the person who gets control itself already has a Facebook account.
