Facebook’s major outage was due to

server configuration adjustment
major outage that Facebook and its subsidiary companies had to deal with for many hours was the result of a change in the server configuration. Facebook reports that it resolved the problem on Thursday.

The company’s systems are recovering after solving the problem , Facebook reports on Twitter . In response, many users report that they still receive error messages when logging in, as a sign that the fix does not have an immediate effect. The company does not yet provide more details about the cause than ‘a change in server configuration’.

The problems started on Wednesday evening , leading to login errors for millions of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram users. The problems lasted for many hours. Instagram said it was back after a few hours, also via Twitter, but also with this report many users made it clear that this was not yet the case for them. Last November , Facebook also had a major outage.

Competitor Telegram claims to have credited three million new users in one day, which could be attributed to the Facebook malfunction. Last year Telegram had 200 million users. The company has not yet provided more recent figures.
