Federal Patent Court threatens Microsoft’s Android revenue
Although Microsoft does not produce Android devices, but worthy of them still heavily involved. This is due to patents that are licensed and thus ensure a continuous flow of money into the direction of Microsoft. That could at least EU-wide change, soon. The Federal Patent Court ruled that the patent EP0618540, which deals with file name is invalid.
The invalidity of the patent due to the fact that the method has already been before, among other things, Linus Torvalds developed. Microsoft’s method is not fundamentally different it, therefore can not be patented. Microsoft may appeal against the judgment, and will do so in all likelihood.
The German ruling could have an impact on the entire European Union. In this respect, Microsoft would go west a secure significant proportion of the Android revenue. So Microsoft should, for example, earn on each device by Samsung $ 10 in HTC devices figure is still $ 5. That should be a far more profitable source of income in the mass of sold Android devices, as their own mobile operating system.
