Firefox OS to MIPS processors for cheap tablets ported




British chip designer Imagination Firefox OS is managed on a MIPS tablet to get the talks. The tablet of Chinese hardware manufacturer Ingenic costs less than a hundred dollars and can run both Android Kitkat as an experimental version of Firefox OS.

The tablet with a screen diagonal of 9.7 inches and a resolution of 1024×768 pixels runs on a 1.2GHz dual-core MIPS32 Ingenic JZ4780 processor with a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. Furthermore, the device has support for Wi-Fi n and Bluetooth 4.0.

Imagination writes on his blog about running Firefox OS on the reference tablet. The research and licensing company appoints the importance of developing low-cost mobile devices for the rapidly growing markets in Southeast Asia and South America. Only a third of the world’s population owns a mobile device and growth potential would therefore be enormous.

The company wants to give a free sample Andre Garzia Mozilla to show that the mips platform meets the quality requirements. The platform would also be good in their own words to teach young developers.

Mips was in 2012 taken over by Imagination Technologies which is best known for the PowerVR GPUs which are used in Intel Atom processors and Apple socs for iPhones.
