Flemish broadcaster will reduce teletext – update
Flemish broadcaster VRT is offering news via teletext gradually phase. When the VRT exactly going to stop teletext is not yet clear. The medium remains in any case to use for offering subtitles.
That said, the Minister of Media Sven Gatz in the Flemish Parliament, in response to a question from parliamentarian Bart Caron. Teletext is becoming less used in Flanders. In 2010 on average there were 576 094 visitors per day, which fell to 123 709 in 2014. Keeping these figures has also become more difficult because registration via a digital device is no longer possible.
According Gatz is offering information via teletext a labor intensive business and he sees no reason for that effort by the VRT. Teletext should be reduced over time, although it is not yet clear when exactly.
Teletext began in Belgium on May 8, 1980 at the then BRT. In the Netherlands, the NOS Teletext began on April 1, 1980.
Update 11:40: NOS has announced to have about 3.5 million visitors a day through TV, app and nos.nl. This number is based on the latest research range from June 2014. According to this study used 90 percent teletext via TV, 35 percent and 23 percent over the internet via apps, where the platforms logically overlap. The NOS therefore sees no reason to stop NOS Teletext.
