FootLogger – smart shoes for those who care about their health

‘Smart’ watches – it’s good, but what do you think of “smart” shoes? Just imagine: what if your favorite sneakers were able to measure your blood pressure, weight, blood glucose, body temperature, and so on? Company 3L Labs develops just such shoes.

Very soon will begin the long-awaited exhibition of electronics CES-2014, which we remind you almost every day. It was at this show 3L Labs engineers will demonstrate their “smart shoes “to the public.

Project developers FootLogger primarily positioned his invention as an accessory for fitness enthusiasts. You no longer need to wear special bracelets wrist, forget about applications for smartphones pedometer that counts the number of your steps and keep a record of daily physical activity. Now all this work will fall on the shoulders of ordinary shoes, inside of which is a full-fledged computer, an accelerometer and eight special pressure sensors that remove so-called “fingerprints” of your feet with a frequency of 20 to 500 Hertz.

Устройство подошвы кроссовок и беспроводная зарядка

FootLogger sneakers also have a special wireless charging, thus avoiding the availability of these connectors, which can get dirt or moisture. One charge of sneakers is enough for about 24 hours of continuous operation. Unlike other devices to account for physical activity FootLogger sensors allow to measure parameters such as speed, stride length, frequency and height of the swing leg, the type of surface under the soles of sneakers, and many other important characteristics of which eventually will develop a detailed report on the pressures on the human body.

Built-in memory running shoes should be enough to record detailed data on 50,000 steps a user. Coming from jogging or walking home, you can throw the collected data wirelessly via Bluetooth to your computer, where a special application (or a convenient online service) processes the information and present it in the form of charts and clear images. Trainers will have a modular structure, which potentially allow them to add additional sensors at the request of the owner.

Расположение сенсоров давления

In the future, the developers of “smart” sneaker promise to bring the functionality of his invention to the point where they can warn users about potential threats to their health. For example, FootLogger be able to assess the correctness of human gait and advise on its updating, will be able to determine abnormalities in the nervous system, to identify the curvature of the spine, the presence of arthritis and many other diseases.
