Ford is working on an electric pick-up truck

Ford is going to make an electric version of its F-series pick-up truck. That’s what a CEO said at the Global Automotive Conference in Detroit, USA. There are fully electric and hybrid variants.

With the move, Ford wants to make the company ‘future-proof’, reports Detroit Free Press on the basis of a presentation by Ford CEO Jim Farley during the Global Automative Conference in Detroit. Farley did not reveal details about the upcoming pick-up trucks in the F-series, except that there are both hybrid and fully electric variants.

It had been known for a while that a hybrid variant would come. Ford has been working on a hybrid version of the F-150 for about three years. The electric pick-up truck will compete with the similar model from Tesla, of which the car manufacturer has only shown concept images so far. About a third of all Ford sold in the US is a pick-up truck.

Earlier this week, Ford and Volkswagen announced an alliance . The cooperation will mainly concern the development and production of pick-up trucks, where Ford, unlike VW, has a large production capacity. However, the companies also want to cooperate for the development of electric vehicles and autonomous driving.
