Ma will remain in office for a year as chairman and after that he will be a regular member of the Board of Management at least until 2020. He writes in a letter that published Business Insider . Daniel Zhang will succeed him as chairman of the Board of Directors of the e-commerce company from China. The step coincides with the 20th anniversary of the company.

The founder set the plan to prepare a successor ten years ago for fear that the company would disintegrate after his disappearance.
