Further proof that Mars once had water

NASA has spent billions of dollars to run multiple rovers on Mars and find traces of that at some point in the history of this mysterious planet had water on it. And surprisingly, the space agency of such evidence may really caught my eye : Mars rover “Kyuriositi” found pebbles, which presumably was formed by water currents. Now, another rover – “Opportunity” – found signs that the Red Planet once had water and perhaps the atmosphere, which could be formed clouds and even rain water.

More recently, “Opportunity” found on the Martian surface rock that scientists have decided to call Esperance. The combination of materials in the rock may indicate its clay mineral structure formed by residence in an aqueous medium. Steve Squires of Cornell University, one of the main people in charge of the mission, “Opportunity” at the Laboratory JPL states that the stone used to interact with the water, that was all to drink.

He believes that in this case, the aqueous composition of Mars is neutral and does not have an acidic environment, that is, the water was quite comparable to fresh drinking water on Earth. As is known, the presence of acid is not neutral composition of water is one of the key components for the formation of life. The recent discovery of the rover shows that on Mars millions of years ago, this component could really be.

“These findings stone Esperance are perhaps one of the most important in all this mission,” – says Squires.

“Its composition tells us exactly what environmental conditions changed its mineral base.”
