G Data: “Chinese smartphone manufacturer supplies standard unit with spyware




G Data claims to have discovered a Chinese smartphone that standard has spyware. The rogue software occurs when the Play Store app from Google and is part of the pre-installed applications, reports the German security company.

According to G Data, the spyware on an extension of the Star Chinese manufacturer, the product name N9500. Several European online shops provide the device with quad-core processor for up to 165 euros.

G Data detected the spyware in their own words by accident, after customers informants about the company. After investigation it turned out to be a trojan – Android.Trojan.Uupay.D – which apparently was already on the phone and was disguised as the Google Play Store. “The only thing the user sees is an app with Google Play Store icon in the active processes. Furthermore, the application is completely hidden, ” explains Christian Geschkat G Data from.

The intelligence capabilities would be invisible to the user, because it removes the program logs the activities should observe. In addition, the software allows performing security updates impossible and the program can not be disabled. Moreover, it is not possible to remove it, because it is embedded in the firmware of the Star-phone, as claimed G Data.
