Gamemaker recreates playable Silent Hills

-PS4 teaser PT in Unreal Engine
A 3d artist and gamemaker has recreated Hideo Kojima’s playable teaser of the canceled PS4 horror game Silent Hills in the Unreal Engine. The short game runs on Windows and has support for vr, including motion control, although there seem to be some problems with that.

Developer RadiusGordello calls the project Unreal PT . The original is no longer available nowadays because rights holder Konami has stopped the distribution. Those who still have PT on their PlayStation 4 can not get it back if they remove it. The game is a nearly complete reconstruction of the console version and will be the only opportunity for many gamers to try PT themselves.

The maker spent about nine months making the game. In his own words, he has completely made textures, models, animations and code himself. He did copy the models of Lisa, Norman, the baby and the radio. The textures of certain photos are also copies and the audio comes from the original. In terms of content, “only the end is adjusted, to make it more reliable to play out”, he says.

For those interested in the development process that RadiusGordello has completed over the past nine months, he has put two blog posts online. The maker has disabled the option to donate at the time of downloading. He does not want to make money on this project, which probably has to do with the fact that he does not own the copyright on PT. It is therefore also possible that Konami will remind him to take Unreal PT offline.

Hideo Kojima, filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro and actor Norman Reedus worked together on PT and Silent Hills under the banner of game publisher Konami. Unfortunately, the relations between Kojima and Konami had deteriorated to such an extent that the gamemaker left Konami. However, Silent Hills remains the property of Konami and has been canceled. The trio now works on Death Stranding .
