Batteries – trouble wearable electronics. Rare smartphone will be able to reach without recharging the whole day if they are at least sometimes used for other purposes. In search of a reliable power source for portable devices, a group of Korean researchers drew attention to the human body heat.

Professor Ben Cho Jin (Byung Jin Cho) from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, KAIST) and his colleagues presented a baptismal source of energy using thermoelectric effect.

According to the researchers, their flexible thermoelectric power generator can be an effective way to maintain health wearable devices for a long time. Thermocouples team developed a strip which generates electricity from the human body heat.

User requirements for wearable electronics are well known. It must be lightweight, flexible and equipped with safe and durable power source. Until now, the role played batteries, but Korean researchers believe that you can forget about them, if you use their device.

Generator researchers have developed two types of jelly-like paste, n-type bismuth telluride-based Bi2Te3 and p-type on the basis of antimony telluride Sb2Te3 and paste caused by fiberglass. Cell impregnated fabric, it forms a film thermoelectric material thickness of several hundred microns.

The power density of a new flexible thermoelectric generator is ten times higher than that of known analogs. With dimensions of 10×10 cm it can produce electricity capacity of 40 mW at a temperature difference of the environment and the body is about 31oF (about 17oC).
