Thus the Botnetz infrastructure “Avalanche” could be lifted. This botnet was operated by an internationally active group of perpetrators, which infected a hundred thousand private and commercial computer systems with different malicious software. Avalanche is therefore one of the world’s largest botnet networks. Circa 20 botnets were active, which were used to spread spam and phishing e-mails as well as malicious software such as ransomware (blackmail robots) or banking trojans.
