Germany wants to ban anonymous SIM cards under new anti-terror measures

The German government has proposed a new package of anti-terrorist measures, which include the sale of anonymous prepaid SIM cards tires should be placed. The country also aims to exchange more information with intelligence agencies of other countries.

Bundestag Under the plan would no longer be possible to buy an anonymous prepaid SIM card with an identity that not even a complete address listed, as reports Spiegel. This kind of SIM cards are at this moment still available in Germany. To achieve the ban, the government wants to providers and operators the obligation to apply for such identification when selling the SIM cards.

In addition, security should be empowered to search the databases of providers by sharing names and other spellings of names. That would often go wrong at this time, because the services do not know the exact spelling of a name. The secret services should have more capacity and more collaboration with foreign secret services. This happens despite the severe criticism was voiced in response to the cooperation with the NSA, so writes the site Heise.

At European level, there has long been interest in prepaid cards used for payment. This would pose a risk to the fight against terrorism. The European Commission is seeking a solution in which identification is possible, but the normal use of these cards is not adversely affected.
