he German government has approved plans to ban the sale of anonymous prepaid SIM cards. The decision is part of new measures against terrorism. The measures should be fully in force from July 1, 2017.

Under the package includes additional powers to security forces to search databases of providers by sharing names and other spellings of names. The services get more capacity and they should cooperate more with foreign secret services.

The measures were approved Friday, July 29 at the very end of the summer recess, writes Heise. Providers of prepaid SIM services get to July 1, 2017 in order to fully switch to buying prepaid SIM cards in combination with a valid ID.

The German Ministry of the Interior said that the anonymous cards are a great security risk because they are frequently used by persons engaged in criminal organizations or terrorist. For instance, the network structures should be more visible.

The security may already instead of 16 collect information about children from 14 years if there is a suspicion that they radicalized.
