Global-IP announces the selection of SpaceX

to launch its 150-gigabit JSAT-1 satellite
Global-IP Cayman , a satellite communications company that aims to provide cost-effective Internet and value-added value-added services in sub-Saharan Africa, today announced that it has signed an agreement for launch services with Space Exploration Technologies, (Known as SpaceX) for the launch of the JSAT-1, its first communications satellite. The JSAT-1 is a high-capacity 150-gigabit satellite (HTS) currently under construction by Boeing.

The Falcon 9 rocket, manufactured by SpaceX, will launch the JSAT-1 industrial satellite. Its deployment is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2018 and the JSAT-1 industrial satellite will be launched on its geostationary course off the coast of West Africa. JSAT-1 will have a 15-year mission.

“Our agreement with SpaceX is a complement to another major milestone in making our innovative service platform ready to serve a growing market with backward Internet penetration,” said Emile Yousufzadeh, co-founder of Global-IP.

“We are delighted to partner with Global-IP in this important task,” said Gwen Schottwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX. Once fully deployed, this satellite will expand Internet services across sub-Saharan Africa, benefiting both businesses and consumers. ”

Global-IP was established in the Cayman Islands and has operations in California and Dubai. The company’s vision is to be a catalyst for a qualitative shift in how the Internet is accessed and used in Africa
