Google admits to Russian law by moving servers to Russia




Google will store data on Russian Internet users in Russia. Thus the company meets a new law that allows this mandatory. Critics argue that the Russian government thus wants to further restrict internet freedom.

Google itself has not yet responded. What the company is going to save exactly the server farms of Rostelecom is therefore not entirely clear.

Wants with the commissioning of Russian Google servers to meet a new, controversial law that was last summer adopted . This law allows foreign companies are required to store data about Russian Internet users in Russia. The law goes into effect from 1 September and officially meant to defend Russia against foreign threat. Critics argue that the Russian government intends to use the law to impose internet freedom curtailed.

Russia is already longer under fire when it comes to Internet freedom. For example, recently a law passed that required to register bloggers as they have more than 3,000 visitors a day. In addition, the government has many internet trolls employed propaganda spread on as blogs and forums.
