Google deleted the project for their own standalone virtual reality headset “- update
Google had claimed source of Re / code at any given time, a team of 50 people working on a VR headset would have to compete with devices like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. There would have worked even with an operating system designed for the canceled headset.
The news confirms the idea that Google has no interest in competing with HTC, Valve and Facebook but want to work with Sun in the form of its recently unveiled Project Daydream. The sources did not reveal how advanced was the development of the headset. However, they could tell the department that Google, now Alphabet, Daydream working on now is “quite large.” Google itself refused to comment in front of Re / code.
The virtual reality of Alphabet strategy focuses instead on mobile now Fri. The project, called Daydream, includes specifications for smart phones, headsets and controllers so that they can work together without any problems together. Especially performance and low latency are given extra attention at Daydream. OLED screens are also required. Apps like Street View and YouTube will soon be compatible with Daydream-Fri.
