Google explains failure of the Google services

Due to a failure of various Google services experienced yesterday million users a short break, such as Hangouts, Google had Drive , Google+ and Gmail affected. End of September 2013, Google had the last major Gmail outage, then you apologized and was planning to upgrade the network, so that a so technically bearing failure should not happen again.

Google Office

Yesterday’s failure has continued according to Google for most users just 25 minutes, only 10 percent have suffered more than 30 minutes. The error has now been corrected and Google announced that they wanted to incorporate more tests and monitoring now, so this kind of problem should not reappear. A system that generates configuration files, generated by an error misconfiguration.

This erroneous configurations reached for 15 minutes on the live server, so that the user requests were ignored and produced errors. A few moments later the internal team got the alarm and 12 minutes were spent with debugging and fixing that bug. 26 minutes after the alarm, the new configuration was ran on the live servers, and for most users everything again, as used to.

Now one wants to investigate further and eliminate the source of error, also wants to work at the speed in which you resolve errors. Configuration files should now go through additional checking mechanisms.

While Google had problems, it could be the Twitter accounts of Yahoo Mail and not take to tweet about it. They talked about the failure and that it would now be time to test other services. I just say once, that would not have been caught on more quickly in a crisis situation and to Yahoo and Outlook.

By the way: My first look at problems always falls only on the Twitter search, because here many unlikely Report user if something fails in larger services, furthermore, there is the service of Google Dashboard , which provides information on failures.
