Google gives people-api free Android Developers

Google has put information online about a new api in Android, which makes it possible inter alia to request addresses and birthdays from the Contacts list of users. Users must consent to the data can be retrieved.

The People-api follows both the Contacts-api as a Google+ API on, says Google. The API makes it possible according to the search giant to retrieve data from the contact list that were previously impossible, such as physical addresses, birthdays and emails.

Google hopes that developers using the API to create applications that use a clever way of that information. The APIs to retrieve the contact list include used by chat apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, which can compare the contacts with the user database to show who else using the app.

The People-api will in the long run the Contacts-api even replaced in its entirety, but for now the Contacts api continues to function.
